Fight back (app biz update 13)
More warts!
So, if you remember in my last newsletter, I mentioned a few unfortunate things had happened in quick succession to knock me down for the count for a while. Well, today just brought another joy: the insurer who covers us for our home builder going bankrupt has just told us we’re only covered for half of what we thought. We are going to have to come up with a lot of money, or the house isn’t going to happen. Ouch.
In simple terms: on the way to work this morning, I saw an ad for a BMW i’d love to be able to buy one day to lug the kids around in. I looked it up - by some strange coincidence, it’s (to the nearest thousand) exactly the same amount of money that we’ll now be out of pocket. My dream car just went up in smoke. Again: ouch.
I told you all that this would be a warts-and-all journey on my trip to starting an app business. Well, there’s been enough warts so far. I’m done with warts.
Fight back
But what am I going to do? I have to do something. This time, i can’t simply give up. I have to do something. I’m spurred on by the realisation that if I don’t build a side income, this house simply isn’t going to get built. My family’s counting on me. Sometimes, when life knocks you about, it knocks you down, like it did last time. But this time, i have to fight back.
Plan
So what’s the plan? I’m not sure. The bank won’t lend us any more, so I think i’ll just have to make the money. I did lunch today with Alex Vlaskin, showed him round the google sydney office, he’s a great guy. He just released a kids game on the app store, and he’s convinced me to give it a go making a game. As for my plan B, well I don’t want to put it on my public blog (i’ve sent it out on the newsletter email). You can email me if you really want to know :)
